2024 (LY12) is a typical hard aluminum alloy in the aluminum-copper-magnesium series. Its composition is reasonable and its comprehensive performance is good. Many countries produce this alloy, which is the largest amount of duralumin. The characteristics of the alloy are: high strength and certain heat resistance, can be used as working parts below 150 °C. At temperatures above 125°C, the strength of the 2024 alloy is higher than that of the 7075 alloy. The formability is better in hot state, annealing and new quenching state, and the heat treatment strengthening effect is remarkable, but the heat treatment process is strict. Corrosion resistance is poor, but it can be effectively protected by coating with pure aluminum; cracks are easily generated during welding, but it can be welded or riveted by a special process. Widely used in aircraft structure, rivets, truck wheel hubs, propeller elements and other various structural parts.
